Trichomes and pathogen resistence

I recently had a discussion with an individual that had done scientific research/experimentation with tomatoes. They were working with wild tomatoes that had high concentrations of trichomes to see if they could determine disease/pest pathogen resistance which would then be bred into domestic tomatoes. Has there been any similar research performed with cannabis? Commercially we have observed that our trich heavy strains tend to pass TYM testing regularly. That is not an absolute observation but it seems to trend that way. And conversely our worst and most frequent failures are less trich laden. Perhaps this is a common assumption.
